Global Energy Ecosystem (GE2) Grants

The Office of Research Innovation and Economic Development (ORIED) and ISSE are soliciting requests for funding for the UT-Global Energy Ecosystem (GE2) Strategic Initiative, which will support research, scholarship, and multidisciplinary collaboration for clean, secure, and equitable energy solutions and sustainable development. 

There are two categories for funding: Research Seed Grants and Team Building Activities. The total funding level for each is about $500k.

Research Seed Grants

Submission deadline has passed. Notification on Research Seed Funding requests will be given in August 2023.

Team Building Activities

Submission deadline: Requests for funding that support Team Building Activities will be accepted at any time during the 2023 calendar year.


Fellowship and Internship Opportunities

Fellowships 
ISSE will award an add-on fellowship for new students who will pursue a PhD in environment and sustainability at UTK. Please note that this fellowship is for new students, not students who are already enrolled.

Every year, ISSE will select and support two or three students for about $5,000/year, each for up to two years. Application deadlines: March 20th for Fall and September 20th for Spring. Faculty members may submit the application packages, including student resumés and brief descriptions of the research areas, to [email protected] and [email protected]. Internships
ISSE provides a variety of internship opportunities on an ongoing basis. Contact [email protected] and [email protected] for specifics. Subject line should read: ISSE Internships.


Partnership Opportunities

ISSE pursues a wide range of research and outreach partnerships with state and local government agencies, business, manufacturing, industry, non-governmental organizations, and others involved in environmental sustainability.
