Dr. Edward J. Jepson, Jr. is an Assistant Professor of Urban and Regional Planning at the Department of Political Science. Prior to 2004, he had been on the faculty of the Department of Urban and Regional Planning at the University of Tennessee as an Assistant Professor after having held teaching and research positions at the University of Wisconsin in Madison and Milwaukee. He has a Ph.D. from the University of Wisconsin in Urban and Regional Planning and a master's degree from Penn State in Regional Planning and is a member of the American Institute of Certified Planners (AICP).
During his professional career, he was executive director of two economic development organizations in Pennsylvania and Iowa over a period of eight years and has also worked as a planning and community development consultant. Dr. Jepson’s primary academic and research focus is on evaluating the community development-sustainability link, and encouraging the integration of sustainability principles into the practice of community planning. He is also interested in economic development theory and practice, the theory and history of planning, the dynamics of human settlement development, and the regulatory and other land use management dimensions of planning.
