2009 Topical Workshop - Biotechnology of Bioenergy Plants (Knoxville, TN)
An invitational workshop on the Biotechnology of Bioenergy Plants is being held November 16-17, 2009 at the Downtown Hilton (501 W. Church Street, Knoxville, Tennessee). This workshop is co-sponsored by UT's Institute for a Secure and Sustainable Environment, Institute of Agriculture, Southeastern Sun Grant Center, Office of Bioenergy Programs, and UT/ORNL's Joint Institute of Biological Science.

2009 Annual Workshop - The Climate-Energy Nexus (Oak Ridge, TN)
The 2009 China-US Joint Workshop will be held November 11-13 at Oak Ridge National Laboratory in Oak Ridge, Tennessee, and is co-sponsored by the US Department of Energy and the National Science Foundation. The theme for this year's workshop is the "Climate-Energy Nexus." The following workshop documents are now available:
For those attendees staying at the Doubletree Hotel in Oak Ridge, an ORNL bus will take participants to and from the meeting. It will load each morning at the Doubletree at 7AM, and each evening after the workshop concludes. On Thursday evening, November 12, the bus will load at ORNL and take participants to downtown Knoxville for a dinner cruise on the Tennessee Riverboat.

IMPORTANT NOTE: This year's conference will be held at Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL). All conference participants must be cleared for entry into ORNL. The deadline for applying for clearance into ORNL for non-US citizens is October 2, 2009. The deadline for US citizens is October 30, 2009. If you are not cleared for entry into the Lab and plan to attend this conference, please contact Darlene Holt (holtd@ornl.gov or 865.241.2387) as soon as possible.
2008 Annual Workshop
The 2008 China-US Joint Workshop on Bioenergy Consequences for Global Environmental Change was held October 15-17, 2008 in Beijing, China, and was co-sponsored by the National Science Foundation.

An exciting aspect of the 2008 China-US Joint Workshop was the addition of two new partners: Purdue University and University of Science and Technology of China.
2007 Annual Conference
The 2007 China-US Joint Workshop Environmental Aspects of Bioenergy Production and Sustainability was held September 11-13, 2007 in Knoxville, Tennessee, USA. Workshop participants included UT, ORNL, and CAS researchers; and National Program Leaders from CAS and the Ministry of Science and Technology of China. The key issues addressed in the workshop were:
- technology of bioethanol production from cellulosic materials;
- potential impacts of bioenergy production on eco-environmental systems; and
- international collaboration.
